"We promised him. In three days time, when we saw the smoke rising from the chimneys we would think of him... And three days after he had gone we forgot to say the Kaddish."
Priorities really change for people in different situations. Had they been in a 'normal' situation, they would have deemed it of the utmost importance that they remember to obey his dying wish. And yet, there it is not that it's not important, it was just that it was somehow easily forgotten.
