"Some talked of God, of his mysterious ways, of the sins of the Jewish people, and of their future deliverance. But I had ceased to pray."
How terrible depressing to know that people are still praying to a God that doesn't answer. I don't blame Wiesel one bit for ceasing to pray. But it's kind of uplifting in a twisted sort of way to know that people's faith and loyalty can run so deep that they can go through something like that while still praising God.
